(2019-12-30) Gekkan Entame - 15ki and their mentor Yokoyama Reina

Morning Musume。'19 15th generation members tell us about the skills of their senpai and mentor: Yokoyama Reina!

— This is the first time that Yokoyama-san has become a senpai and in addition, a mentor. What kind of senpai is she?

Kitagawa Rio : I'm pretty comfortable to integrate into any social group, but I admit I had a hard time in Morning Musume。. Today I succeeded to integrated myself, but when I just joined, I felt like there was a very heavy atmosphere and I saw all the members as rivals. But quickly after, Yokoyama-san came to see me regularly, she was very kind and helping me with everything. If she hadn't been there, I would have been frustrated a lot of times (laughs).

Yamazaki Mei : Yokoyama-san smiles all the time and helps us a lot during the 15th generation lessons. I think it's a senpai as bright as the sun...

Okamura Homare : It's true! During rehearsals for our first tour, I was often discouraged because I found it hard to remember a lot of things. Yokoyama-san came to see me to comfort and reassure me.

— Yokoyama-san, what are your goals and/or projects as a senpai and mentor?

Yokoyama Reina : Some people educate harshly and acutely, by being strict on everything. I think that's not the role of senpai. We are here to teach new members what needs to be known to succeed, that's all. I change my teaching methods and my advice according to the members because they don't have the same needs. Kaga Kaede has more seniority than me so she can sometimes better help the members, I know that. But even if Kaedee is going to teach them something, I would continue to be around to support them.

— Yokoyama-san, how do you feel about being appointed a 15th generation mentor with Kaga Kaede-san?

Yokoyama : I thought this would have returned to the 12th generation, I was very surprised that they give to us, the 13th generation, this responsibility. This is why we went to ask the staff members the reasons. We also went to talk to our leader Fukumura-san, who replied: "Giving this responsibility to the 13th generation is a huge opportunity to surpass yourself and aim even higher." I was very happy and reassured to hear that from our leader, but somewhere I was frustrated too because I always feel like I'm doing my best and that meant that it was not enough yet. That is what made me realize that I had to work even more.
